New Jersey has one of the most diverse cultural populations in the United States. It is made up of folks from all walks of life and a multitude of countries and ethnic backgrounds. One of the biggest immigrant communities in New Jersey is Chinese. So when an aging senior speaks Mandarin or Cantonese and has little or no English speaking ability, it can be hard to find a caregiver in New Jersey who can communicate with them in their native tongue and offer sensitivity and an understanding of their culture.
Moreover, many Asian seniors may experience loneliness, feelings of resentment and depression as they get older. This comes either as a result of the isolation of living alone or because they have few or no close family relationships. Making things worse, having little contact with their culture of origin can result in an inability to participate in normal activities of daily living.
As these seniors age, it is inevitable that they lose contact with friends and family and they will find it increasingly difficult to create new relationships.
All these factors can lead to a complete disconnection from a senior’s native culture.
To address these issues and challenges in New Jersey, Affinity Home Care of NJ has created a program that we call “Cultural Care” … cultural based home care.

Since our founding in 2004, Affinity Care of NJ has built and cultivated a compassionate team of caregivers who specialize in delivering home care services to seniors and others in our local Asian communities.
We have caregivers who speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese and understand the Chinese culture. In addition, our caregivers have Asian culinary experience, so preparing authentic Chinese meals and comfort foods is a benefit we can provide to our Asian clientele.
